The Dangers of Road Rage

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration states road rage is when drivers “commit moving traffic offenses so as to endanger other persons or property; an assault with a motor vehicle or other dangerous weapon by the operator or passenger of one motor vehicle on the operator or passengers of another motor vehicle.” With both drivers and passengers causing road rage, the stakes are high when you are driving on the road. It’s always best that you avoid road rage to protect you and your auto insurance. Without doing so, you expose yourself and your auto insurance company to many different risks.

Road Rage Increases the Risk of Traffic Fatalities

Did you know that 66 percent of traffic fatalities are due to road rage? Road rage consists of being in an emotionally charged state. In this state, the adrenaline you experience could affect your physiology, preventing you from being able to think and react clearly while driving. As a result of this, you could lose control of your vehicle or cause another person to lose control of his or her vehicle. If you add speed and other aggressive driving behaviors, then you increase the chances of experiencing a fatality.

Firearms and Aggressive Drivers

One of the best ways to avoid road rage is by choosing to not engage. In fact, you could be saving your life by avoiding road rage. Statistics show that 37 percent of aggressive drivers have a firearm as well. If you consider the fact that other drivers with road rage are not capable of controlling their emotions, then it’s likely that a car accident can lead to a dangerous situation involving hotheads with guns. Instead of placing yourself in this situation, avoid engaging individuals who have road rage.

Avoiding Road Rage

With road rage threatening your life and your safety, it’s important to avoid road rage. The following are some practical ways you can use to ensure you have a safe drive wherever you travel.

  • Don’t engage a person with road rage.
  • If you are being tailed, pull over and let the driver pass.
  • Don’t drive if you are too emotional.
  • Plan your drive before getting behind the wheel
  • Avoid being late for appointments.

With a focus on driving safely, you can ensure that your car insurance rates remain the same. Additionally, you avoid the chances of getting into an auto wreck, which could affect your ability to continue to drive.

Stay safe on the road. Call Low Rate Insurance Agency at (817) 635-0375 for more information on Grand Prairie auto insurance.
